Poverty in India and The Streisand Foundation–

Under the Streisand Foundation, a charitable trust started by Mr. Visvambhar Isaiah Streisand in 1996, the India Street Children Help Trust (ISCHT) was started in 2007 as a project to bring people together who have experienced the overwhelming number of children living on the streets in India. The project is a platform for those who want to join hands and really do something about it.

NGO students, poverty stricken youth and street children in need are given the opportunity to rise above the poverty line at Streisand Foundation Community College for the poor

As of October 20, 2010, The Streisand Foundation is empowering the Indian Street Children via providing their older siblings, the most active member of the family, an education and a decent paid job at the end of a 3-month intensive program conducted at The Streisand Foundation Community College in Kodihalli, Bengaluru.

The volunteer based program provides the underprivileged youth their basic needs such as pre-schooling, education in health and hygiene, prevention from ailments, as well as motivating and educating their mothers not to discontinue the youth to attend classes so that the Streisand Foundation can indeed lead them to employment with a standard and self confidence.

The Streisand Foundation is encouraging the sustainable independence of its beneficiaries based on a training model that ensures underprivileged youth and their families’ financial independence within three months.

The Streisand Foundation highly experienced and dedicated professionals identify 18-26 years old youth from the slum communities and train them in various trades in The Streisand Foundation Community College campus on an immersion 3-month program. Upon completion, students are placed in reputable companies (customers of The Streisand Art Gallery and those inspired by Mr. Streisand’s years of contribution to the India culture and society) at a minimum wage of Rs.5000/- per month and become economically self supportive.

Volunteer and international aid give destitute street children in need hope to rise above the poverty line in India

The morale and psychological boost gained by one single youth in just three extremely intensive and thorough months of training, has shown that its effect rapidly expands and spreads across family and community. This program builds role models and gives hope to all neighboring children.

Hands-on training is provided by volunteer teachers with a proven history of success in their respective fields, with focus in the areas of retail/sales, guest care (hospitality and office), service driving, plus art and designing. Along with practical vocational instruction, participants will receive thorough guidance pertaining to living skills development, with a focus on hygiene and nutrition, community values, social skills and etiquette, self-esteem and motivation, and cultural diversity; with emphasis on indispensable fundamentals like spoken English and basic computer/ telecommunications technology. Lunch, tea and coffee are provided daily.

The Streisand Foundation’s ultimate goal is to stop that process at its root, enabling the active family members a trade and standard to stand out in society from a reversible fate.

For the last 12 months the Streisand Foundation’s Executive Program Coordinator has met with numerous corporations, organizations, government agencies, potential donors and supporters and is pleased and honored to start its most recent activity with the valuable collaboration of a collection of qualified and generous volunteers.
